Building Your Own Theology
- For some of us defining what we believe as Unitarian Universalists is an ongoing process during which we can choose to reflect on our life experiences and explore different possibilities in a search for what
resonates for us. Join us in a weekend of exploring what it means to Build Your Own Theology.
-
Conversations on Compassion
- If you have an interest in exploring compassion in your life, please consider attending one or more of these five two-hour conversations: About Compassion, The Compassionate Instinct, Self-Compassion, Cultivating Compassion, and, Compassion in Action. The conversations may include vignettes and videos from information in The Fetzer Institute's Conversations About Compassion and information from Karen Armstrong's book, Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life.
-
Parents As Resident Theologians
- This class is designed to help parents consider their own religious beliefs and experiences so that they can better discuss religious issues with their children. We will learn to translate our religious and spiritual beliefs into language that children can understand. We will also discuss the diversity of theological positions among Unitarian Universalist's and the ways children respond to life crises.
A great opportunity for parents, grandparents, religious education teachers, or anyone interested in exploring their own spiritual journeys and learning how children process religious and spiritual ideas.
-
Evensong
- Evensong is a series of gatherings where
participants are invited to explore their life journeys
in a setting that provides opportunities for careful
listening and deep reflection. During the course of
these gatherings we will be sharing our thoughts,
experiences, doubts, and beliefs about religious
concepts.
-
The World’s Religions
- Based on Huston Smith’s book of the same name,
in this class we will be discussing some of the
world’s religious traditions and what our knowledge
about them can add to our understanding of Unitarian Universalism.

Bridging the God Gap: Communication, Respect
and Understanding Between Believers, Atheists
and Agnostics
- A Workshop with Dr. Roger Christan Schriner
Monday, February13th 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. in the Chapel.
Did you know that atheists are the minority group
most Americans are least willing to allow their
children to marry? According to a recent study, they
are "seen as a threat to the American way of life."
Even within Unitarian Universalism, theists and
atheists often find it awkward to communicate about
theological matters. But Rev. Chris Schriner is
convinced that believers and non-believers have a
lot more in common than they think. Find out why in
this workshop based on his new book, "Bridging the
God Gap: Finding Common Ground Among
Believers, Atheists, and Agnostics."
Here are some reasons you might want to attend
this workshop:
* You don’t believe in God, but some of those you
care about are fervent believers.
* You believe in God, and you aren’t sure how to
communicate with atheists and agnostics.
* People you love clash about religion. You wish
you could help them reconcile.
* Someone in your family quarrels with you about
theology.
* You aren’t sure if you believe, and you want to
reflect about whether there is a God and what God
is like.
Although there are no required readings,
participants are encouraged to purchase Bridging
the God Gap, which will be available at the first
session or by mail in advance. The book is $20, tax
included, plus $3 for shipping. It’s also available at
