Activities

The following is a list of some of the activities at UUFS. To find out more about them and how to join, please attend a Sunday Service.
Book Group
Meeting at 10 a.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month except December, this group has spirited discussions of books, both fiction and nonfiction, nominated by those who attend. Meetings are held at members' homes. The UUFS Newsletter calendar lists the book to be discussed and the host for the month's meeting.
Choir
The UUFS Choir is a wonderful group of people who lift their voices in song to practice every Thursday night at 7 pm, and then usually sing the 1st and 3rd Sundays of every month during the morning church services (warm up at 9 am). It is volunteer and anyone is welcome to join, no matter how much or little musical training you have previously had. We sing music from a variety of cultures, faiths, and musical genres, and aim to interact with the church and community at large through shared participation at cultural events and services. We are growing in spirit and numbers and are open to more musical ideas and elements. Please join us for fellowship and fabulous music in a loving, supportive environment. We'd love to have you make music with us!!!
For additional information see the Choir web page.
Circle Lunches and Circle Suppers
The goal of the Circle Lunches and Circle Suppers program is social: we build community while making friends and enjoying the comgeniality at a series of potluck gatherings. The program is open to members and friends of UUFS.
Both Circle Lunches and Circle Suppers are held on the second Saturday of the month in private homes. Circle Lunches (at noon) are for those (a) attending with children, (b) not driving at night, or (c) preferring a noon-time meal. Circle Suppers (at 6 p.m.) are for those attending without children.
The lists of volunteer hosts for both groups are prepared by the coordinator with the aim of not having the same people attending together too often. Each host(ess) will then contact the assigned guests, giving the choices of desired contributions, which are: For the Circle Lunch: Salads, picnic-style foods, chips and dips, fruit and dessert, beverages - and a child-friendly location. For the Circle Supper: Appetizers, salad, main dish, side dishes, dessert, drinks, bread and butter.
The Circle events are open to UUFS members, staff, and friends. Please register with Ursula Gobets at circle@uufs.org, for either the Circle Lunch or the Circle Dinner (please state), giving the names (and ages, if chidren) of attendees, and, if able to host, the maximum number of adults and children you can accommodate.
Covenant Groups
A UUFS Covenant Group is a group of six to twelve members and experienced facilitators who meet twice a month. Covenant Group meetings have a worship service format, the heart of which is sharing our lives. The goals of the Group are to care for its members, to encourage spiritual growth, and to meet the needs for affirmation and acceptance. Spiritual growth includes deepening our understanding of Unitarian Universalist principles and values and expressing them in the community. Covenant Groups rely on shared leadership, confidentiality, and each member’s commitment to participate. In addition to regular meetings, each Covenant Group periodically performs a service project. Please note that a Covenant Group is not a discussion group or a therapy group. (In some UU congregations the concept of Covenant Groups is known as Small Group Ministry.) For more information send mail to covenant.groups@uufs.org. Covenant Group meeting material is available for general use.
Meditation Group
The Meditation Group is a small group that meets Thursday mornings in the chapel to meditate and share tea and thoughtful conversation. The group is open to all regardless of experience. For more information send mail to meditation@uufs.org
Men’s Group
The Men’s Group meets twice a month for discussion and conversation. The purpose of the group is to provide an opportunity for socializing, informal discussion and support. A meeting of the group consists of a check in time during which members share what is happening in their lives, a social time with a snack, tea and coffee and then a previously chosen topic is discussed. The group meets in member homes. All sharing is confidential. For more information send mail to mens.group@uufs.org.
